The Love of a Pint-sized Tiger

10 Jun

My daughter is almost 5 years old now

She already shares many of my physical characteristics, and some of my psychological ones too

A practically bald toe head from birth, just like her momma, her hair is now a golden hue in sunlight and gets lighter upon absorbing the rays, just like mine

Her skin is fair as a China doll’s and burns easily without sun block, just like mine

Her eyes are a stormy blue that can hide and reveal so much at the same time, like I can

She hates socks, however, which is totally unlike her momma

And she is a fierce lover, just like me

We both love easily, quickly, and ferociously

Our hearts were not built with off switches or close buttons

They are always on, always open

I haven’t yet figured out in my own life if this is a gift or a curse because sometimes it seems like both

But either way, she’s got it forever

Her hugs are so tight they actually hurt-Those bony little arms are stronger than they look

But that’s just her little soul’s way of telling you how powerfully she loves you, because she can’t quite find the words yet

So the outward expression remains a physical one for now

She hurts me with her fiery love, but I am learning to brace myself and take it all in anyway-Head bumps, fractures, broken ribs, bruises and all

So if my daughter hurts you with one of her enormous hugs or smashes your face painfully against hers, please know that just means she loves you sooooooooooo much!

-And you can send us the hospital bill

That’s my little Tiger
